Work in the halls 3/28 - 4/17/12 - Card Access Project
Many of you have seen notices popping up on the Campus Communications that new Otter Cards are coming. Some work in the halls is the first step in this process.
The Card Access project will upgrade all the physical card access equipment and software. This should allow us to have more flexibility with scheduling door hours and with the addition of some new door locations.
The construction crews responsible for the wiring and equipment installation for this upgrade will be working in the following buildings at the designated time frames:
Wednesday, March 28 – Wednesday, April 4, 2012
Monday, April 2 – Tuesday, April 10, 2012
Monday, April 9- Tuesday, April 17, 2012
These crews will be working throughout the halls/common areas and around doors that currently have card access or will be receiving card access in the near future. Some work may be needed to be done in the rooms and if this is the case a member of IT will occupancy the construction workers.
Work will consist of:
• Cabling from the existing Telecom-Rooms to each Card Access door location (new or existing)
o May require the removal of ceiling tiles, at doors and in the common/hall areas
o May require the drilling through or into walls, along the path from the door to the Telecom-Room
o Installation of conduit to carry wires along the path from the door to the Telecom-Room
The contractor will be aware of the class time changes. They will not pack up and move completely, but will make allowances to not block the halls during the class transition time. Some noise should be expected, and although we have worked to schedule this to cause the least disruption possible, construction does make noise. Your patience is appreciated.
This work is Phase 1 and there will be additional phases to complete all work for this upgrade. Please look for updates similar to this in the future.
At this point, your card access will not be affected by this work.
